LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Learn effective workflow to model HVAC systems in OpenStudio

  2. Learn baseline modelling protocol as per ASHRAE 90.1-2010, Appendix G

  3. Understand LEED v4 requirements for energy model

  4. Develop energy model with a Chilled Water System for a sample building

  5. Model all components of Chilled Water System like Air Handling Units, Fan Coil Units, Chiller, Pumps, Cooling Tower in OpenStudio

  6. Use the Building Component Library (BCL) in OpenStudio for HVAC system

  7. Identify bugs to run error-free simulations

  8. Run compliance check as per LEED v4 requirements

  9. Create report for LEEDv4 compliance using OpenStudio measure

  10. Understand simulation results to give meaningful feedback to the design team

Prerequisite: Basic working knowledge of OpenStudio and SketchUp is required. Basic understanding of HVAC systems will be an advantage. This course is offered for an Intermediate learning level.

WHAT IS NOT COVERED IN THE PROGRAM?

  • Detailed fresh air calculations as per ASHRAE 62.1-2010 for LEED compliance

  • Daylight modeling for LEED compliance

  • Other requirements covered in the Energy and Atmosphere Credit in LEED v4

  • Parametric Analysis Tool (PAT) in OpenStudio

  • While you will be able to change or modify various system components, detailed energy conservation measures to optimize the design of the CHW system will not be covered. LEED compliance is the focus of this program.
